What is Seikido?
The Seikido Martial Arts Federation of Canada was established in 1980 to offer instruction in the philosophy and training of this traditional martial art form.
Seikido is a style of Martial Arts instruction which encompasses the best techniques and principles of hard and soft martial arts. It is a practical and efficient form of self-defence which emphasizes yielding to force and countering with effective and efficient movements. The self-defence techniques are taught in conjunction with the physical principles of body mechanics, providing students with a complete understanding of body and mind.
The words "Sei" + "Ki" + "Do" (正 氣 道) put together translate to “The Righteous Way.”
As any person is capable of growing in any direction, Seikido aims to nurture its students through training to live with a sense of dignity, justice, sincerity, and courage. These righteous and integral principles are necessary in creating strong leaders with great character and way of thinking. Seikido is not meant to be a competitive sport, but instead a way to prepare students for real-life situations while improving both physical and mental well-being and strength.
Why Study Seikido?
Seikido is a journey along a personal path. Through practicing the physical aspects of Seikido, one gains skill and confidence. Through studying the philosophy, one learns how to improve character. The focus of Seikido is placed on personal growth and to apply what is learned to help and protect oneself and loved ones. Diligent training increases self-confidence, positive attitude, and inner and outer strength.
The practice of Seikido demands its students to understand the importance and joy of cooperating and working with others. Our method of instruction stresses discipline through respect. Students are taught that cooperating with others is instrumental to success in all aspects of their lives.
The Seikido Martial Arts Federation of Canada is one of the Lower Mainlands longest running and most established Martial Arts schools. Since our inception in 1980, Seikido continues to stay true to its original intent - the development and strengthening of the individual through righteous philosophy and exemplary martial arts training.
Nearly four decades and thousands of students later, the Seikido Martial Arts Federation continues to prosper under the direction of its founder Doshu Paul Li and son Sensei Wayne Li, in a non-commercial and traditional approach, exemplifying excellence in a true Martial Arts education.
